How to structure your reading:
On Tuesdays we will largely discuss theories of comparative politics, so you should:
--read the assigned chapter
--note any questions you have to ask in class
--consider what countries you know of fit into the theories in the book
For Thursday’s class, you should:
--first, read the case study for the week
--then, read the news specifically about that country
--find at least one relevant article by Wednesday noon
Assignment: By Wednesday at noon, you must each upload one news article link to our class google doc, with one paragraph added “article review” to encourage your classmates to read it. Check what has been posted before you, as no more than two reviews per article will be allowed—meaning, only two students may choose the same article.
--read five articles of your choosing that your classmates have found by Thursday’s class.
We will discuss the articles in small groups for the first 20-30 minutes of Thursday’s class.
If you do this well, you will learn to see what interests you quickly. You will also be able to point out the important points in the article and how they connect to the historical, constitutional, economic, regional, and social life of that country. (Plus it will make your group projects so much easier.)
